Responsibilities: Responsible for the care and well-being of the animal collection. The collection consists of African ungulates and birds in large mixed species enclosures. Responsibilities include shifting animals, animal observations, diet preparation, cleaning, and reporting medical needs and abnormal conditions to zoological managers. Much of the work is done outdoors from vehicles in the animal habitats. Must have a practical understanding of operant conditioning as it relates to the daily management and research of the species in the collection. Must be able to work in a large team environment. There is a required guest interaction component both formal and informal. This is a salaried, full-time, permanent position.
Basic Qualifications: Demonstrated strong partnering skills
Demonstrated strong observation, evaluation, and data collecting skills
Required Education High school degree or equivalent
High school degree or equivalent
Combined five years of post-high school education and animal care experience. Minimum of at least 3 years experience in an AZA accredited institution or equivalent.
Preferred Education: Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Zoology or related field
