The Greensboro Science Center's internship program is designed to give selected college and graduate students the opportunity to utilize their academic knowledge in a professional work setting. Participants will find that their internship experience will help them develop leadership skills, determine future goals, and network with professionals. Interns may receive course credit for their internship by completing all school and program requirements. All internships are unpaid.
The Greensboro Science Center is looking for a qualified intern to assist our Marketing Manager. The Marketing Intern will professionally and efficiently complete assigned marketing projects while providing support for the Marketing Manager. The Marketing Intern will learn about all aspects of marketing necessary to publicize the events and programs of a medium-sized museum. The Marketing Intern will have the opportunity to sit in on meetings about day-to-day marketing initiatives, advertising, and long-term branding strategies. Responsibilities will include coordinating marketing initiatives that drive attendance to GSC exhibitions, programs and events; posting all exhibitions, programs and special events to online community calendars; assisting in market research as needed (implementation of surveys, data collection, etc.); providing administrative support to department as needed; assisting Marketing Manager with press releases; handling special projects as assigned; communicating weekly with Marketing Manager regarding project status and priorities; creating and posting signs and event calendars around the Science Center; and, assisting with social media including Facebook, Twitter and Flickr.
On-site work will be on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays each week. Some projects may be completed from home. The selected applicant will be expected to start in late September and continue through late December. Applicants should have a solid understanding of basic marketing concepts and processes including advertising, promotions, community relations, PR, outreach, and internet marketing; strong verbal and written communication skills; excellent organizational skills and an eye for details; the ability to work independently and as a team player in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple tasks at once, and complete assigned tasks within identified time frames; graphic design experience including a demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Word and Publisher, Photoshop or similar programs.
