Zoo Miami is looking for an individual to join the Ectotherm department. The new hire will be able to work in a team environment, have good general knowledge of biology and husbandry of reptiles, amphibians, fish, and invertebrates. Employees are expected to: maintain and design exhibits to the highest standards including proper live plant propagation, keep accurate daily records, work cohesively amongst the Ectotherm team, follow all protocols and safety standards, interact with the public, and must possess excellent communication skills. Candidate must also be willing to work weekends and holidays. Preference will be given to candidates that have a degree in Biology, Zoology or related fields. Preference will also be given to individuals that have held an Ectotherm position in an AZA accredited institution and are familiar with AZA standards. Ideal candidates will also have experience working with SSP species as well as husbandry experience with Chelonians.
Minimum Requirements: High school degree or equivalent and one (1) year exotic animal husbandry experience. College course work in zoology, biology or a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a month-to-month basis. Candidates should be willing to relocate at their own expense, must be able to tolerate the South Florida climate, and should familiarize themselves with the cost of living in Miami prior to applying. Benefits include Health Insurance (a current mandatory 5% deduction of gross salary is contributed to County health plan), optional Vision/Dental/Life Insurance, participation in the Florida Retirement System (3.5% of gross salary is deducted for contribution). Under the current Collective Bargaining agreement with the County, this person is also required to take 4 unpaid Furlough Days per fiscal year. The salary range for this position is $28,500.69-$43,848.32.
