The Oklahoma City Zoo is looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our progressive Aquarium Department. Oklahoma City is among the most economically healthy cities in the nation and living expenses remain comfortable. The selected candidate will work with a team to maintain a diverse collection of more than 120 species of fish and aquatic invertebrate species in both freshwater and saltwater closed systems totaling more than 165,000 gallons in the Aquarium and Big Rivers buildings. Responsibilities will include daily care and feeding of animals in the collection, maintenance of habitats, behavioral observations, record keeping, animal enrichment and training. A desire to increase knowledge in the field by participating in scientific meetings and conferences and participate in the zoo’s field conservation projects is expected. May serve on the zoo’s emergency response team. Applicants must have proven enthusiasm for our profession and institutional goals, a basic knowledge of fish and aquatic invertebrate biology and care, excellent communication skills, and be comfortable interacting with people. Experience in life support system design and application is a plus. A Bachelor's degree in Zoology or Biology is preferred but not required. Weekend, evening, and holiday shifts are expected as needed.


Experience equivalent to one year of full time animal care/animal husbandry work with exotic animals in a zoological setting and a High School Diploma or GED OR, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Must be SCUBA certified or willing to become certified within 6 months of hire. This is a full-time position and selected candidate must have the ability to lift 50 pounds. Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Oklahoma motor vehicle operator’s license and pass a Driver’s History check to operate Zoo vehicles. Must successfully complete of a pre-employment background check, a physical examination, and a drug test and have the ability to pass annual TB tests. The starting salary range is $12.29/hr per hour with excellent benefits.
