The Phoenix Zoo is currently seeking a part-time Programs Assistant to assist with the design and facilitation of on-site programs for children of all ages. Programs Assistants must be able to use a variety of educational techniques to support assigned programs including conducting themed guided tours, leading interactive activities, and presenting live animals. Since Programs Assistants work with live animals, they are responsible for knowing and abiding by proper protocols for a diverse collection of animals in preparation for and during programs. This person will also prepare programs or create resources for guests (i.e., newsletter, pamphlets, take-home journals, etc.) and participate as necessary in trail interpretation, special events support, and Outreach or Night Camp presentations.
Minimum requirements for this position include a HS diploma with at least 6 college credits in Education, or 60 hours of instruction. Applicants should also be familiar with Arizona Academic Standards and Early Childhood Standards. The ideal candidate for this position will have existing knowledge about conservation and biology, a friendly and personable nature, excellent communication style and technique, and enjoy working with children. All Phoenix Zoo employees are required to pass pre-employment background checks including a drug test, this position will also require annual TB testing, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to work a flexible schedule.
