Mammal Keeper Internship

Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is currently accepting applications for a paid three-month internship position in the Mammal Division. This is a 40 hour/week internship at a pay rate of $8.36/hour, with no benefits. Housing is the responsibility of the intern. Preferred qualifications include completion of college course work in biology or related field. Some prior experience caring for exotic animals is a strong plus for this position. Duties include, but are not limited to, feeding, cleaning, maintenance, enrichment, observations, and other assigned projects. Candidates must demonstrate good safety practices and be able to follow directives accurately. The intern will receive hands-on experience working alongside keepers in multiple sections of the Division.

Applicant must be able to lift 50 lbs. without difficulty, be able to work in adverse weather conditions, including rain, heat and cold, be able to traverse zoo grounds on foot, be able to bend, lift, rake and sweep without difficulty, and possess visual acuity appropriate for animal care and general safety practices. A valid Driver License is also required.
