The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking Animal Care Interns for its Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch.

Black Beauty Ranch is a world-renowned animal sanctuary located in east Texas. Its over 1,300 acres are home to more than 1,000 domestic and exotic animals, many of whom have been rescued from near-death situations such as slaughterhouses, biomedical research laboratories, and trophy hunting ranches. Bison and cattle, horses and burros, antelope and apes, camels and llamas all have permanent, safe homes at the ranch, which was founded in 1979 by Cleveland Amory, author and animal advocate.

Interns will gain valuable hands-on experience working with a variety of species. Along with daily husbandry practices, responsibilities include diet preparation, enrichment, enclosure maintenance, animal monitoring, record keeping, assisting in medical procedures and general housekeeping.

Desired candidates are mature individuals with the ability to handle physically and emotionally stressful situations, a demanding workload, long hours, and work independently or as a team. Applicants should possess a strong personal work ethic and a high level of integrity.

Internships are unpaid and require a minimum 12 week commitment at approximately 40 hours per week.
On-site housing is available. Good driving record and proof of negative TB test required.
