SUMMARY STATEMENT: The Building Mechanic Technician position is a self-starting, mechanically inclined technician, with 3-5 years' experience in commercial building maintenance. This position acts as an all-around handyman for the Museum of Science. RESPONSIBILITIES: • 750,000 square feet of museum property, consisting of 7 multi-purpose buildings including a 5 level parking garage, Planetarium, Omni Theater, two theaters and four animal living areas. • Repair, replace, and modify building infrastructure elements including but not limited to items such as door locks and hardware, wall partitions, cubicle partitions, and furniture, which will ensure continued Museum operations and a safe, comfortable and pleasing environment for our staff and visitors.• Complete assigned general carpentry projects (drywall repair, acoustical ceiling repair, taping, painting) in order to repair and alter Museum office and public spaces.• Regularly works on several projects simultaneously. • Available for emergencies 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, 365 days/year. WORK SCHEDULE: This position is full-time, 40 hours/week, Sunday-Thursday. REPORTS TO: Manager, Facilities MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • High School Diploma plus up to two years formal advanced education and/or apprenticeship. • More than three years of general maintenance experience. STARTING SALARY: Non-Exempt (Hourly). Commensurate with experience.
