A huge part of the appeal of the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo is the landscaping and plant materials. The zoo is accepting applications for the position of Area Manager: Horticulture. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing all horticulture needs and tasks at the zoo, including regular maintenance and planning of possible improvements. Areas of responsibilities include turf maintenance, annual flower beds, perennials, shrubs, and trees, as well as well as tropical rain forest plants, exhibit pastures, irrigation systems, and pond water quality. This position will coordinate with other zoo departments and outside contractors as appropriate. The Area Manager: Horticulture will be expected to regularly perform horticulture duties and will be responsible for managing a small crew of employees and their day-to-day tasks. Bachelor’s degree in life sciences or a related field, two years horticulture experience, and two years supervisory experience required. This is a full-time, exempt position requiring year-round availability (including weekends and holidays).
