Position: SupervisorDepartment: Fishes and InvertebratesImmediate Supervisor: Curator of Fishes and InvertebratesStatus: Full-time, ExemptJob Summary: Hands-on leadership responsibility in animal care and exhibit maintenance of fish and invertebrate collection with particular emphasis on monitoring, conceptualizing and installing life support systems in closed-system aquariums. Develop and implement procedures for animal husbandry and habitat maintenance. Oversee and conduct quarantine related medical issues dealing with fishes, invertebrates, reptiles & amphibians.Requirements: Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years professional experience in fish and invertebrate husbandry and exhibition in an aquarium setting or 7 years equivalent experience. Leadership and management experience preferred with skills such as strong teamwork, communication (both written and verbal), organization of projects and attention to details desired. Must possess a high-energy work ethic and a positive attitude.Responsibilities: Assist in the coordination of daily routines, special procedures, and mentoring and supervision of staff. Monitor operation of life support systems; assess, redesign and install new systems as appropriate. Participate in the development and implementation of husbandry procedures, techniques and practices. Comfort with scuba diving in various conditions. ( Must be Scuba certified). Maintenance of animal care records both electronic and written. Mentoring and guiding volunteers and interns. Participate in the design and installation of new exhibits. Work with other departments to facilitate programming needs. Assist in the development and implication of research projects pertaining to fishes, invertebrates, reptiles and amphibians in coordination and collaboration with the Research and Veterinary department. Maintain departmental schedules and time cards. Assist Curatorial staff with management of purchasing and departmental budgets. Assist Curatorial staff with development and execution of department planning and strategy, both short and long term.
