The Oregon Coast Aquarium is currently accepting applications for internships with their Fish and Invertebrates Department.

Internships at the Oregon Coast Aquarium are geared towards college students and recent graduates who are interested in playing a direct role in ensuring our oceans are vital and healthy for generations to come. All applicants should be organized, self motivated and have excellent people skills. All internship positions are on a voluntary basis only. Housing, travel expenses and transportation are the responsibilities of the candidate.

The selected candidate will assist the Aquarist staff with daily care of the Aquarium's invertebrates and fish. During the internship, the student will work in our Pacific Northwest galleries and cold-water quarantine areas. The aquarium’s location offers opportunities for animal collection in our local bay and tide pools. Students may participate in building our collection by seining, tide pooling, completing acquisition forms and caring for new animals in quarantine.

Essential Functions:

Assist with tank maintenance and cleaning

Prepare daily diets and perform daily feedings

Assist in the maintenance of back-up areas

Conduct precise record-keeping

Perform special projects, to be determined by the Aquarist staff


College students, or recent graduates, pursuing a degree in biology or a related field, having already completed one year of college-level biology

Available to work 40 hours a week (7 a.m. to 4 p.m.), including weekends and holidays, for 6-10 weeks (duration to be determined upon hiring)

Able to lift 50 pounds, climb 6-foot ladders, work in inclement weather and on slippery uneven surfaces.
