Animal Internship

The Kansas City Zoo is currently seeking motivated and enthusiastic individuals interested in learning about the animal care field for the summer of 2013. Responsibilities include, but not limited to, assisting keepers in their daily duties of cleaning animal holding areas and exhibits, food preparation, enrichment, and exhibit maintenance according to AZA and USDA regulations and learn the basics of operant conditions. Qualified applicants must be able to work in a team environment, able to lift 50lbs and deal with the summer temperatures of Kansas City.

All positions require that you are currently working towards or have obtained a degree in any science field. Internships are unpaid positions and require 32 hours per week for at least 10-12 weeks. The internships also require that you provide for your own accommodations and transportation. If you are accepted into the program we required a proof of a negative TB test screening and a valid driver’s license.

Internship position has flexible hours and is unpaid. Interns must be seeking college credit.

The Kansas City Zoo is accepting applications for their summer zookeeper internship program. Internships will provide practical experience for those interested in the zookeeping field.


o Interns will work alongside the zookeepers in many aspects of their profession including exhibit maintenance and upkeep, diet preparation, enrichment, assisting with veterinary procedures, record keeping and public presentations.

o Internships will run approximately 12 weeks and are UNPAID.

o Applicants must be a sophomore, junior or senior currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and working toward a degree in the field of biological sciences.

o Applicants may receive credit through their school for the internship.

o Students must receive a negative TB test and be able to work in extreme weather conditions and able to repeatedly lift 50 lbs.
