The National Aquarium is seeking a Senior Aquarist to join the Changing Exhibits gallery “Jellies Invasion: Oceans out of Balance”, which displays nine species of local and exotic jellies, and is supported by a jellies culture lab and holding facility. The incumbent is responsible for the daily care of the Changing Exhibits gallery and support areas, including but not limited to cleaning tanks and back-up areas, managing water quality, maintaining LSS, and culturing a variety of jellies and live foods. The Senior Aquarist must be able think and work proactively, problem solve, and handle emergency situations without supervision. This position will also participate in the transition to and care of future changing exhibits.
Requirements of this job include a Bachelors degree in Biology or related field, or equivalent experience. Applicants should have a minimum of 3-5 years paid experience in a public aquarium or zoological setting, with at least 1 year of experience with jellies acquisition, transport, husbandry, culture, and display. Applicants should also have good verbal and written communication skills, excellent observational skills, be detail oriented, work well within a team and individually, and be dedicated to the development, production, and maintenance of high-quality and educational exhibits. Experience working with a variety of taxa (fishes, invertebrates, herptiles, etc.), intermediate computer skills, and open water SCUBA certification are also required. Must work weekend and evening hours as needed.
