The Donor Services & Events Coordinator contributes to the success of the Chicago Zoological Society by providing event, logistic, and tour support to the Director of Development Events & Women’s Board, Director of Individual Giving, and Directors of Major Gifts to facilitate cultivation efforts to bring donors closer to the institution to contribute to development and a sustainable future.
Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts, Communications, Business or other relevant field or equivalent combination of training and experience required. Minimum 3 years relevant experience working in a development, a non-profit, or an administrative position.
Must be a creative individual with the ability to think strategically and deal with changing priorities, emergent issues, multiple projects, and clients simultaneously. Must have a high level of energy, be self-motivated, results-oriented, confident, customer-oriented, and have strong people skills. Must be highly flexible and able to respond to and adapt to change. Must be able to establish and maintain a strong rapport and positive relationships with senior managers, staff, and external clients. Must be strategic in orientation, and be proactive, persistent, and helpful. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including verbal, listening, and presentation skills required. Must be articulate and able to represent the organization effectively both internally and externally. Substantial interaction with other departments is required. Strong writing skills essential, and the ability to produce correspondence in grammatically correct business format required. Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
Computer proficiency with Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, and Excel required. Experience with PowerPoint and other Office software preferred. Experience with database packages essential. Raiser’s Edge experience required.
Must be able to maintain confidentiality of privileged information. Must possess basic accounting skills, mathematical aptitude, and strong analytical skills. Must understand the nature of debits and credits. Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Solid organizational, follow-up, and follow through abilities required. Professional appearance and demeanor required. This is a full-time position which sometimes including weekends, holidays, and evenings depending on the event.
Experience and/or ability to work and interact effectively with a diverse, multicultural audience. Multilingual ability, Spanish fluency a plus. Valid driver’s license required for Illinois residents within 90 days of hire; valid out-of-state license required for out-of-state residents.
