The Dallas World Aquarium is seeking a herpetologist to be responsible for the direct care of amphibians and reptiles. This person will be the primary keeper of a diverse collection of amphibians, but will also be required to assist as needed with reptiles (venomous and non-venomous). Candidate will be part of a team that cares for species primarily representing the South American Orinoco River basin and the area inhabited by the Maya people.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Candidate will provide animal nutrition and feeding, basic animal husbandry, monitor health of animals, maintain exhibits (daily cleaning and modifying as needed) and keep accurate and concise records and daily reports, as required. Person must be able to participate in public presentations with guests (both formal and informal interactions).
An Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Care, Biology, Animal Science, Zoology or a related field is preferred. However, candidate must have a minimum of two years experience with amphibians and reptiles in a Zoological institution. Must be able to accept directions and work as a team member with little or no supervision. Must be physically able to stoop, bend, reach, climb and lift, carry or push at least 50 pounds.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule, which may include weekends, holidays and special events. Hourly pay, commensurate with experience/education.
