Scholarships and AwardsApplications for the 2008 courses were due on November 9, 2007. AwardsThe Tim O'Sullivan Award for Professional Development recognizes significant long-term individual achievement and service to AZA members through the AZA Professional Development Program and the AZA Board of Regents.
ScholarshipsTo encourage participation in the AZA Professional Training Program, the Board of Regents makes eight awards available to aquarium and zoo professionals to provide additional financial opportunities for individuals and institutions. Each of the following scholarships provides:
Margaret A. Dankworth Management ScholarshipSuccessful applicants for the Margaret A. Dankworth Management Scholarship should demonstrate leadership ability or leadership potential at their present institution and a commitment to professional growth. Applicants must be AZA individual members employed in a zoo or aquarium or related facility. Employment in an AZA accredited institution is not required, but preferred. This Award is based on merit alone and not on need. This award may be applied to either Managing for Success: Career Development or Organizational Development. Robert O. Wagner Professional Development AwardApplicants for the Robert O. Wagner award should demonstrate professional involvement in AZA programs or conservation activities, leadership ability or leadership potential at their present institution, and a commitment to professional growth. Applicants must be an AZA individual member employed in a zoo or aquarium or related facility. Employment in an AZA accredited institution is not required, but preferred. This Award is based on merit alone and not on need. This award may be applied toward any of the AZA Professional Training courses. Diversity Advancement AwardThis award may be applied toward any of the AZA Professional Development courses. Its purpose is to support participation in the AZA Professional Development Program by under represented individuals who are AZA members and employed in a zoo or aquarium. Disney's Animal Kingdom Diversity Advancement AwardThis special diversity award may be applied to any AZA course that is required for the Conservation Education track of the George Mason University Masters program in Zoo and Aquarium Leadership. The courses include the three core courses of Conservation Education, Institutional Records Keeping and Managing for Success: Career Development, as well as Creating Successful Exhibits. The award's purpose is to provide support for training in an education or interpretation specialty at the AZA Professional Development Schools. Applicants must be AZA individual members of an under represented group who are employed in a zoo or aquarium. International Conservation Training AwardInternational Conservation Training Award promotes professional training for our international zoological colleagues. Preference will be given to candidates who are currently involved in cooperative efforts with AZA member institutions or participating in TAGs, CAPs or SSPs. Employees of any zoo or aquarium outside the United States and Canada may apply. This award may be applied toward any of the AZA Professional Training courses. Zoo Conservation Outreach Group Conservation Training AwardThe Zoo Conservation Outreach Group (ZCOG) Conservation Training Award – which is new for 2007 – promotes professional training for our zoological colleagues in Latin America and the Caribbean Basin. Preference will be given to applicants that show involvement in cooperative field conservation efforts with AZA member institutions or other regional partners. Employees or associates of any zoo, aquarium or related facility in Latin America or the Caribbean may apply. This award may be applied toward any of the AZA Professional Training courses. The Ellen Trout Zoo Crocodile Conservation AwardThis award promotes professional training for our zoological colleagues from countries in Latin America and the Caribbean Basin. Employees or associates of any zoo, aquarium or related facility in Latin America or the Caribbean may apply. This award may be applied towards the Crocodilian Biology and Captive Management Course. The Award is sponsored by Zoo Conservation Outreach Group and the Ellen Trout Zoo. Cameron Park Zoo Amphibian Conservation AwardThis award promotes professional training for our zoological colleagues from countries in Latin America and the Caribbean Basin. Employees or associates of any zoo, aquarium or related facility in Latin America or the Caribbean may apply. This award may be applied towards the Amphibian Biology and Management Course.
