On The Cover
In 2009, Dr. Jennifer Pramuk from WCS’ Bronx Zoo and colleagues received funding from AZA’s Conservation Endowment Fund for their project, “Establishing a Captive Breeding Facility for Malagasy Amphibians.” With this funding and in collaboration with the community-run Malagasy organization Association Mitsinjo, WCS will create a captive breeding facility in Andasibe, east-central Madagascar.
This facility will maintain captive amphibian populations to safeguard against current threats as well as the potential future introduction of the amphibian chytrid fungus, Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd). This project will also raise awareness of amphibians in the local population and sustainably generate income for the Andasibe community. The cover shot is of a Boophis luteus.
