The Birmingham Zoo is currently seeking a part-time keeper for the Children's Zoo Department. Responsibilities include the daily inspection, feeding, cleaning, training, enrichment, medication, and maintenance of the animals and their exhibits in the Children's Zoo Barn.
CZ Keepers are expected to interact and interpret with visitors in the CZ Barn, Contact Yard, and other CZ areas in a positive, educational manner. Candidates must possess good communication, observational, organization skills and the ability to work well with others in a team environment.
Candidates must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform duties in extreme weather as permitted. Desire to work with domestic animals is a must. Position prefers a biology or related degree. Prior experience in animal training using operant conditioning principles and environmental enrichment is preferred.
