Primate Keeper and Behavior Internship

Schedule: 5 days per week, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

May-August 2013, with the possibility of extension

Internship Overview:

This internship is designed for college students or recent graduates interested in pursuing a career in zoo keeping, animal behavior, or primatology. This position will be shared between the Primate/Small Mammal and Animal Behavior departments. The intern will work directly with the primate keepers to assist with daily cleaning and general husbandry during part of the day, and with the Curator of Behavioral Husbandry and Research to develop enrichment for primates, cheetahs and otters, and conduct behavioral research on the primate collection. This internship will promote knowledge and experience in the care, behavior and natural history of great apes and several species of monkeys, as well as enrichment programming and behavioral research techniques.

This internship is unpaid but housing may be available.

Requirements:

Junior or Senior in college or recent graduate

Major in Biology, Animal Behavior, Psychology, Zoology, Anthropology or other related field

Previous hands-on work with exotic animals

Strong willingness to learn

Positive attitude, team mentality
