Title Conservation Science Intern (unpaid)
Learning Objectives
Interns will learn the processes used by researchers in the area of specialization. These
internships are designed for individuals interested in research careers in the areas of
emphasis or related areas. In particular, students that plan to pursue graduate degrees in any
of the areas below may find the internship to be a valuable experience.
Responsibilities
Animal Behavior: Intern will work with the Behavioral Research Manager to gain experience
in performing behavioral monitoring on a number of species. Intern will assist in all aspects of
planning, executing and analyzing behavioral research data at Brookfield Zoo. In addition,
intern will be expected to develop an independent research project. Intern will present the
results of her/his findings at a mini-symposium held at Brookfield Zoo.
Requirements
• Minimum two years of college at an accredited institution; G.P.A. 2.5/4.0, majoring in
biology, ecology, endocrinology, animal science, or other directly relevant field. Minimum
18 years of age.
• Applicants who have demonstrated experience with research in lab, field or other setting
are preferred. Coursework in research skills, biology, animal behavior, ecology or related
field may be substituted.
• Completion of a reflective journal or project required as part of internship.
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
• Good computer skills.
• Good organizational skills.
• Must be able to commit to 12 weeks; approximately 40 hours/week.
