Summary
Founded in 1984, Ohio Wildlife Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization fostering awareness and
appreciation of Ohio’s native wildlife. As a leader in wildlife rehabilitation and conservation education, Ohio
Wildlife Center treats more than 5,000 animals every year and reaches thousands of adults and children
through education programming. Ohio Wildlife Center operates a Wildlife Hospital, a 20-acre Education &
Pre-Release Center and SCRAM! (humane wildlife removal service) with a permanent staff of 12, seasonal staff
& interns and 250+ committed volunteers.
The Hospital Director is responsible for daily management and oversight of hospital staff, interns and
volunteers; training and procedures; operations and animal care. The position reports directly to the
Operating Director and is responsible for creating, maintaining and evaluating the following in the Hospital
department: permit compliance; budget and resources; personnel and volunteer administration; programming
and customer service strategies; animal care guidelines and related training; vendor relations; hospital
cleanliness and asepsis and human and animal safety guidelines.
Major Functions and Responsibilities:
• Adopts organizational strategies and policies
• Develops and maintains department’s administration, operation and budget
• Directly supervises hospital staff, interns and animal care volunteers (hospital, pre-release facility,
hotline and sub-permit home care); coordinates scheduling and work assignments
• Sets annual departmental goals and coordinates timely execution
• Ensures hospital cleanliness and minimizes risk of harmful exposure to staff, volunteers and animals
• Develops and implements hospital policies and procedures, in compliance with state and federal
regulations
• Manages hospital resources; inventories supplies and equipment
• Directs permit-required data retention processes and reporting
• Oversees management and care of animals present to hospital including: triage, recovery, pre-release
• Creates, delivers and evaluates on-going instructional curriculum for staff and volunteer (examples
include: hospital essentials, animal handling, medications, orphan rearing, wound management &
species-specific training)
• Coordinates Wildlife Hotline procedures, training and scheduling
• Prepares routine reports to Ohio Wildlife Center management
• Instills a culture of collaboration, teamwork and appropriate delegation and dispersal of responsibility
• Manages relationship with Animal Care Unlimited staff and volunteer veterinarians
• Understands and ensures compliance with federal, state and local regulations
• Personally commits to Ohio Wildlife Center’s Core Values
• Additional duties as assigned by Operating Director
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelors or Associate degree in related field (e.g., wildlife management, zoology, biology) or
equivalent experience; registered veterinary technician or DVM with wildlife experience desired
• Five years of supervisory experience
• Minimum five years’ experience in medical treatment of animals
• Proven history of successful volunteer management
• Excellent oral and written communications skills; including public speaking
• Working knowledge and experience in wildlife rehabilitation
• Competency in basic word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software
• Experience in conflict resolution and strong creative problem-solving skills
• Extensive knowledge of general biology of native Ohio wildlife
• Understanding of and commitment to the role and mission of Ohio Wildlife Center
• Physically fit; able to lift 50 pounds and no aversion to inclement weather
• Obtain rabies vaccinations (upon employment)
• Clean background check, valid Ohio motor vehicle operator’s license and good driving record
Additional Expectations:
• Be well versed on the laws of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Ohio Division of Wildlife, and animal
regulations of local municipalities
• Maintain professional appearance (includes wearing appropriate, well-kept uniform)

Direct Reports: Admissions Coordinator, Wildlife Technician, seasonal staff (1-2), interns (up to 12),
volunteers (80-120).
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
The following physical requirements must be met by a candidate to successfully perform the essential functions

essential functions. Ability to work evenings and weekends as required and willingness to travel is necessary.
Employee is regularly required to use steps; stand on feet for up to four hours at a time; balance, stoop and
kneel; lift and/or move 25 pounds and sit at a desk while using a keyboard. Position also requires employee to
see, read, talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is also frequently required to walk
and reach with arms and hands. The employee is occasionally required to climb and lift and/or move up to 50
pounds and work outdoors in inclement weather. The noise level in the work environment is usually
moderate.
Compensation: This is a permanent salaried position. Ohio Wildlife Center provides a competitive salary and
benefits package commensurate with experience. Interview and relocation expenses are the responsibility of
