Brookfield Zoo is home to animals representing more than 400 species. This magnificent collection inhabits nearly 20 naturalistic exhibits within the zoo's 216 acres.
Brookfield Zoo exhibits this collection for the enjoyment and education of the world. It is a leader in international conservation efforts and a conservation center for the local region. As a conservation center for the community, the zoo tries to educate people about the natural world and involve them in conservation activities. It also runs its daily operations in a manner that's environmentally friendly.
In a more direct sense, the zoo is involved in many kinds of conservation programs. These include captive management of endangered species and research concerning genetics, behavior, and nutrition, as well as support of field conservation programs around the world.

Situated on five acres, dotted with ponds, this nationally recognized zoo offers an intimate experience with a large variety of domestic farm animals and native Illinois wildlife. Pathways welcome you, creating accessibility throughout the zoo. A stroll through the barn gives visitors an opportunity to encounter a rare American Cream Draft Horse, wooly llamas, playful goats and a host of other animals. Discover wildlife exhibits, with their shady expanses, immersing you in natural habitats for White-tailed Deer, Red Fox, Three-toed Box Turtle, Black-crowned Night Heron and a collection of other animals.
While the animals are the main attraction, the zoo also features a historical train station, a railroad caboose, a tree-lined picnic area, a unique gift shop and a seasonal concession stand. Throughout the year, we offer a wide variety of educational programs,special events and opportunities to become involved with the zoo and its animals.

Founded in 1868, Lincoln Park Zoo is America’s most historic zoo and one of the nation’s most modern and progressive. A conservation haven nestled in the heart of Chicago it operates one of the most significant zoo-based conservation and science programs in the country. Attracting an estimated 3 million visitors per year, the not-for-profit institution is also one of the nation’s last remaining free admission zoos.
Lincoln Park Zoo’s newest state-of-the-art habitats include: Regenstein Center for African Apes, a 29,000 square foot exhibit where guests can literally go nose-to-nose with curious and complex gorillas and chimpanzees. Regenstein African Journey immerses visitors in the sights and sounds of Africa; and Pritzker Family Children’s Zoo, developed with child-development experts, features North American wildlife including black bears, beavers and red wolves.

Miller Park Zoo is open everyday except Thanksgiving and Christmas, from 9:30 am – 4:30 pm. Some highlights include: sun bears, reindeer, Sumatran tiger, sea lions, river otter, red panda, Amur leopard, red wolves, Galapagos tortoises, and several species of primates and birds. The Zoo also features a walk through Wallaby exhibit, a Children's Zoo and Rainforest Theatre as well as indoor exhibits including ZooLab, Katthoefer Animal Building and the Tropical America Rainforest.

Niabi Zoo is dedicated to its mission to conserve, educate and preserve. Located on over 60 wooded acres of a 230-acre forest preserve, Niabi is home to a diverse animal population representing 160 species from around the world. Endangered and vulnerable animals including red wolves, Bengal tigers and African lions are ambassadors for our conservation efforts and remind over 200,000 visitors annually about the importance of habitat preservation.
Naturalistic habitats transform the zoo into global experiences where visitors can explore Asia, Africa and Australia and get up close to animals from around the world. Our newest interactive exhibit, Passport to Africa, features a feeding platform where guests can hand-feed our reticulated giraffes and get a bird's eye view of swinging Colobus monkeys. Asian elephants have long been a top attraction at Niabi Zoo, and no trip would be complete without a ride on the train or carousel.

Located in Glen Oak Park and overlooking the Illinois River, the Peoria Zoo has provided family fun since 1955.
