Contraception Scientific Advisory Group

The mission of the Contraception Scientific Advisory Group is to work with AZA and its members to develop cooperative relationships between AZA, its Animal Programs, its accredited institutions, and the scientific community and to provide technical advice pertaining contraception for AZA Animal Programs. The Contraception SAG advises the Wildlife Conservation and Management Committee (WCMC), Conservation Department, and Animal Program Leaders on issues related to contraception. It is overseen by the WCMC.

Functions

The Contraception SAG is administered by a Steering Committee composed of three Officers (Chair, Vice-Chair, and Secretary), all of whom are elected from the general Contraception SAG membership. The primary functions of the SAG are to:

  • Communicate and coordinate with the AZA Wildlife Contraception Center.
  • Advise AZA Animal Programs in their efforts to identify and recommend contraception related goals for their Action Plans.
  • Provide input on the contraception components and research needs of all Animal Care Manuals.
  • Offer advice regarding contraception research proposals and inquiries made to the Animal Programs.
  • Examine of all protocols and policies of the Animal Programs relating to contraception.
