AZA and its accredited zoos and aquariums, members, and partners cooperatively strive to tailor amphibian conservation efforts within the AZA organization as well as regional, and global areas.

AZA-Accredited Zoo and Aquarium Initiatives

• Panama Amphibian Rescue and Conservation Project, managed collaboratively by Africam Safari Park, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Defenders of Wildlife, Smithsonian National Zoological Park, Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, Zoo New England, and Houston Zoo.
• Puerto Rican Crested Toad Species Survival Plan®, managed by AZA.
• Project Golden Frog, managed collaboratively by several AZA-accredited institutions.
• National Amphibian Conservation Center, managed by the Detroit Zoo.
• El Valle Amphibian Rescue Center in Panama and the Houston Toad Head-Start Program, two projects of the Houston Zoo.
• What Are Amphibians Trying To Tell Us?, managed by the Saint Louis Zoo
• Conservation of Reptiles and Amphibians, managed by the Toronto Zoo.
• Reptile and Amphibian Research, managed by Zoo Atlanta

U.S. Government Amphibian Initiatives

• Amphibian Abnormalities in the National Wildlife Refuge System, managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is an environmental quality program that monitors amphibian abnormalities throughout the National Wildlife Refuge System.
• Amphibian Research and Monitoring Initiative is managed by the U.S. Geological Survey and is designed for national amphibian monitoring, research, and conservation.

Regional Zoological Association Initiatives

AZA and/or its accredited zoos and aquariums collaborate and support the amphibian conservation efforts of regional zoological associations throughout the world including:

• World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA)
• African Association of Zoos and Aquaria (PAAZAB)
• South African Threatened Amphibian Working Group
• Australasian Regional Association of Zoological Parks and Aquaria (ARAZPA): Amphibian Extinction Crisis
• Frogs Australia Network, hosted by Zoos Victoria

Global Initiatives

AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums work closely with both domestic and international partners to protect amphibians worldwide. Additional AZA collaborations include:

• Amphibian Ark
• Amphibian Specialist Group
• Conservation Breeding Specialist Group
• International Union for the Conservation of Nature Red List - Amphibians
• Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation (PARC) is dedicated to the conservation of reptiles and amphibians as well as their habitats. Partners include AZA and its accredited institutions, herpetological and conservation organizations, nature centers, state and federal agencies, universities, museums, research laboratories, environmental consultants, and the pet trade, energy and forest industries. Regional groups have been established for the Northeast, Southeast, Southwest, Northwest, and Midwest PARCs.

Non-Profit Organizations and University Based Initiatives

• AmphibiaWeb provides a rich source of information on amphibian biology and conservation for more than 6,000 species that can be queried for taxonomic, distributional and specimen data.
• The Center for North American Herpetology provides an authoritative checklist with images of the frogs and toads in the United States and Canada.
• Frog Calls, sponsored by the Chicago Herpetological Society, is an evolving webumentary that features video clips of calling frogs and interviews with scientists about frog issues, declining populations, evolution and conservation.
