Small Population Management Scientific Advisory Group
The mission of the Small Population Management Scientific Advisory Group (SPMAG) is to develop cooperative relationships between AZA, its Animal Programs, and its accredited institutions and provide technical advice pertaining to population management for AZA Animal Programs.
SPMAG advises the AZA Wildlife Conservation and Management Committee (WCMC), Conservation Department, and Animal Program Leaders on issues related to population management. It is overseen by the WCMC.
SPMAG is administered by a Steering Committee composed of three Officers (Chair, Vice-Chair, and Secretary), all of whom are elected from the general SPMAG membership. The primary functions of SPMAG are to:
Advance the science of applied small population biology.
Develop tools for use by small population managers.
Provide training for population managers in North America and other regions.
Advise select AZA Animal Programs involved in the conservation of small populations.
