Research Scientific Advisory Group

The mission of the Research Scientific Advisory Group (SAG) is to develop cooperative relationships between AZA, its Animal Programs, its accredited institutions, and the scientific community and provide technical advice to enhance in situ and ex situ wildlife research.

The Research SAG advises the AZA Wildlife Conservation and Management Committee (WCMC), Conservation Department, and Animal Program Leaders on research topics, technologies, and strategies. It is overseen by the WCMC.

Functions

The Research SAG is administered by a Steering Committee composed of three Officers (Chair, Vice-Chair, and Secretary) all of whom are elected from the Research SAG membership. The primary functions of the Research SAG are to:

  • Advise AZA Animal Programs in their efforts to identify, develop and implement the in situ and ex situ research goals for their Action Plans.
  • Offer advice regarding research proposals and inquiries made to AZA Animal Programs.
