Institutional Collection Plans
All institutions must have an Institutional Collection Plan (ICP) that is re-evaluated and updated at minimum of every five years. The ICP should include a statement of justification for all species and individuals in the institution’s planned collection. The ICP requires that all species in and/or being considered for residence is evaluated with regard to:
- status in the wild
- status in zoos and aquariums
- existence and priorities of cooperative management programs
- ability to maintain the species in both a physically and psychologically healthy environment
- exhibit value
- education value
- exhibit suitability (may include climatic considerations)
- need for husbandry and other research
- recommendations stated in AZA TAGs' Regional Collection Plans
- any other issues specific to your institution's mission and vision.
