Nancy Filippi, Managing Director at Oakland Zoo was honored on
Thursday, November 14, 2013 at the 22nd Annual National
Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon, which was held at the Inn at
Spanish Bay in Pebble Beach, California. Ms. Filippi was recognized
as a Distinguished Agency Honoree for her philanthropic work with
Ventana Wildlife Society, one of Oakland Zoo's conservation
Oakland Zoo Set to Plug in ZooLights, an Annual Holiday Festival of Lights
Oakland Zoo's holiday festival of lights has officially begun. Friday November 29 marked the date Oakland Zoo officially plugged in the lights, sights, and sounds of the season. From November 29 through January 5, 2014, hundreds of thousands of sparkling lights will illuminate the night sky to celebrate a holiday tradition in Oakland known as ZooLights.
Baby Baboon Named Kodee Born at Oakland Zoo
Oakland, CA…November 14, 2013 - Oakland Zoo is happy to declare the arrival of a baby Hamadryas baboon. Baby Kodee was born on October 24, 2013 at Oakland Zoo. After acclimating to her exhibit over the past three weeks, she can now be seen daily by the public. Kodee is most often seen riding on her mother, Krista. She likes to cling to her mom's belly and be carried around the exhibit. If she isn't close to her Mom, then her Dad, Martijn, is nearby.Zookeepers say he has shown to be very protective of the infant and always has an eye on her whereabouts. Like human newborns, the first couple of months will mainly consist of the baby nursing and sleeping.
First LIVE Streaming California Condor Webcam Now Online
On October 21, 2013, Oakland Zoo and Ventana Wildlife Society
will turn on the first ever LIVE streaming webcam to monitor
California condors in the wild. For more than a year, teams at
Ventana Wildlife Society, Oakland Zoo, CamZone, and FedEx have
strategized how to secure funding for the camera and install it
into a remote area of Big Sur, California, only accessible via a
treacherous service road.
Endangered ocellate mountain vipers at the Saint Louis Zoo
Nine ocellate mountain vipers were born at the Saint Louis Zoo on August 16--an important event for this highly endangered speciesfrom northeastern Turkey. The Saint Louis Zoo is one of only three U.S. zoos to care for this viper.
