Riverbanks Welcomes New Addition to the Senior Animal Staff Flock

Colleen Lynch Brings Over 20Years of Avian Expertise to the Zoo

 

[Columbia, SC] - Riverbanks Zoo and Garden is pleased to welcome Colleen Lynch, a 22-year veteran of the zoo profession, as its new curator of birds.

Lynch comes to Riverbanks from Chicago's Lincoln Park Zoo where she also served as curator of birds during her tenure there. In addition, Lynch held the position of population biologist for the Association of Zoos and Aquarium's (AZA) Population Management Center at Lincoln Park.

"Colleen's diverse aviculture experience, combined with her passion for and expertise in population management are tremendous assets," said Ed Diebold, director of animal collections and conservation at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. "We are delighted to have her join our management team."

Lynch is well-known in the zoo community as an active member of the AZA, serving on numerous committees and advisory groups within the organization. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Illinois Benedictine College and a Master of Science degree in Biological Sciences from Northern Illinois University.

Lynch officially began her role as Riverbanks Zoo and Garden's curator of birds in February.
