Caryl Zenker Named Oregon Coast Aquarium’s New Vice President of Development

NEWPORT, Ore.—Caryl Zenker, former executive director of The Zoo Society of Tacoma is the new vice president of development for the Oregon Coast Aquarium (www.aquarium.org.) She has an extensive professional background in development and marketing in the Pacific Northwest.

Zenker’s broad career includes fund-raising for TVW, a state-of-the-art television facility in Olympia, Wash.; development director for Odyssey Maritime Discovery Center in Seattle and assistant station manager for marketing and development for Seattle’s National Public Radio station KPLU. She earned prior experience working with the Tacoma and Seattle Art Museums, City of Tacoma and the 1989 Washington Centennial Commission.

Zenker said she loves raising funds for zoos and aquariums and looks forward to meeting citizens of the Newport community as well as Aquarium supporters throughout the state.

“Our Aquarium is considered to be the state’s Aquarium. We have such a variety of sea life, mammals and birds, plus engaging exhibits for children, that visitors come back again and again,” she said.

Zenker was born in New York City, received a B.A. in liberal arts from The Evergreen State College, Olympia; completed courses at the Evans School of Public Affairs, University of Washington; has a Certificat de la Langue Francaise, La Sorbonne, Paris, and attended the Pushkin Institute, Moscow and Leningrad. She has completed professional training in grant writing and fund raising management.

Zenker is a member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, Northwest Development Officers Association and a former member of the Public Radio Development Officers Association. She is a past member of City Club, Tacoma and Seattle, Rotary and a past instructor of the University of Washington, Tacoma, certificate program in fundraising management.
