You can now register and pay online with a credit card! Just log in to our new website. Non-members can log in too after creating an account. After logging in, choose "Upcoming Events" from the menu on the left. Next, click on the title of the event for which you would like to register. Finally, choose "Event Registration" from the options at the top and complete the registration process. When registering online, there is no need to submit the registration form.

Course Description

Principles of Elephant Management II focuses on the skills necessary to safely accomplish all of the AZA-required elephant behavioral components. Live training demonstrations and hands-on experiences will be utilized to combine the teaching of advanced elephant principles with best occupational safety practices. To provide students with the most valuable hands-on and personalized experience, enrollment in this course is limited to 12 participants.

Tuition & Expenses

Early Bird Rates:
$950 for AZA Individual Members 
$1050 for Non-members 
Regular Rates:
$1050 for AZA Individual Members 
$1150 for Non-members 

The AZA registration fee above covers tuition for the course as well as ALL meals for the three full days of the course. Other expenses include hotel and travel. See below or more information about costs and logistics for this course.

Scholarship funding is available through a competitive process.

Target Audience

This course is designed for elephant managers, curators who oversee elephant programs, and elephant handlers.  At least one elephant manager at each AZA-accredited institution keeping elephants is required to attend this course.   

Prerequisites

Principles of Elephant Management I (PEM-I) must be completed prior to this course. Those who took PEM-I prior to 2003 (in 2002 or before) are required to retake the course prior to completing PEM-II. At this time, only elephant managers at AZA-accredited elephant holding institutions are eligible to enroll in this course.  

Course Registration

Checks sent for course payment will be cashed immediately upon receipt as per standard business practices.  Cashing your check does not indicate that you have been accepted into a course. You will receive an acceptance email or waitlist email once acceptance decisions are made.

Travel & Accommodations

Orlando International Airport (MCO) is the closest airport, approximately 40 minutes from Disney's Animal Kingdom. Shuttle service between the airport and the hotel is available through Mears Transportation Group.

Houston has two major airports. Both George Bush Intercontinental (IAH) and William P. Hobby (HOU) are approximately 30 minutes to the hotel and Houston Zoo. Supershuttle provides shared shuttle service at both airports.

Course participants stay in designated hotel and are transported to and from the zoo each day.

Please wait until you are admitted into the course before making your reservations. You will receive a confirmation letter containing detailed information regarding your accommodations and transportation once you are admitted.
