Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo is currently seeking qualified applicants for a
Assistant Curator position in the HERPS AND AQUATICS DEPARTMENT. Our park has a diverse herps and aquatics collection which includes, but is not limited to, komodo dragon, both venomous and non-venomous snakes of Florida, stingray touch tank, amphibian center and various aquarium exhibits. The Assistant Curator position is responsible for the management and expansion of the zoo’s herps and aquatics collection. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: hiring, supervising, training and motivating keeper staff, ensuring visitor satisfaction, performing general husbandry duties, assisting in the design and construction of new exhibits, coordinating with TAGs, SSPs, registrar, veterinary staff and curator.
This position requires exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication skills, the ability to be weapons trained, act as a duty supervisor and work in typical Florida climate. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in biology or the natural sciences and/or possess related equivalent field experience or specialized training. Open water SCUBA certification is preferred along with a minimum of three years curatorial or management experience in a zoological setting. Salary commensurate with education and experience. All offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a background screening and drug testing.
