Job Purpose: Responsible for all aspects of the marketing and membership functions at Zoo Atlanta including development and implementation of marketing strategies and plans, advertising, multi-media, media relations, public relations, consumer promotions, and social media platform management. Ensures Zoo Atlanta has consistent market positioning and exceeds revenue and attendance goals. Supports fundraising and other revenue center efforts. Dedicated to promoting the Zoo’s mission and values to the public.

JOB FACTORS:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

 Develop and implement a marketing and membership sales plan that includes goals, objectives, strategies and schedules for all aspects of marketing including pricing, consumer promotions, advertising, multi-media, public relations and social media platforms.

 Ensure that revenue, contribution and attendance goals are met and exceeded.

 Promote the Zoo’s mission and values through marketing and other external communications.

 Develop and manage marketing, membership, public relations/communications and multi-media budgets.

 Supervise and oversee the administration of 15 full time employees representing the marketing, public relations/communications, multi-media, and membership functions.

 Develop brand and positioning strategy. Consult with other departments on strategies, initiatives, and goals to create marketing message(s) for maximum impact. Accountable for ensuring consistent positioning across all departments and in all public information and programs. Accountable for all messaging including website content, publications, and advertising.

 Identify, build and manage key relationships with advertising agencies, public relations firms, vendors, designers, and research firms to leverage resources. Spearhead planning meetings with media partners.

 Work in coordination with Chief Advancement Officer, VP of Education and others to assure marketing support for fundraising, education programs and other revenue efforts.

 Evaluate effectiveness of marketing initiatives including direct marketing, promotions, advertising, and public relations.

 Identify and, as needed, test new opportunities to build revenue, enhance market position, grow attendance and sales.

 Serve as the zoo staff lead for the marketing committee of the board.

 Must be willing to support Zoo Atlanta’s Vision, Mission and Values statement

 Any other miscellaneous projects/assignment assigned by the Director and/or CEO.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 Minimum of 5 years of leadership and staff management experience in the marketing arena

 Must possess a high level of knowledge in the areas of marketing, membership, public relations, market research and social media

 Agency experience a plus

 Non-profit experience a plus

Special skills and abilities:

 Must be very innovative, motivated, creative and possess the ability to present a vision and build consensus

 Must be a team player with the ability to motivate others

 Possess a sense of urgency and a strong orientation for achieving results

 Must be hands-on and comfortable doing tactical work

 Consumer marketing experience a must

 Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral

 Must be project oriented; possess excellent organizational skills and a strong attention to detail

 A good understanding of computer processing including the ability to perform Microsoft Word programs and the generation of Excel spreadsheets. Experience in planning and utilization of consumer market research

 Zoo Atlanta is open to the public 363 days out of the year, therefore, all positions at Zoo Atlanta may require employees to work some weekends, holidays and evenings.

EDUCATION: Master degree in Business preferred with a minimum of 5 years of experience or Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years experience in a broad-based marketing position.

This position will also be part of the Weekend Duty Officers rotation. Which requires all senior management to work a designated weekend day each month. The assigned manager is essentially the highest-ranking officer at work on that day; basically the officer is responsible for the activities that take place on this designated date. Each manager is expected to patrol the park and provide assistance in any capacity that might be necessary during that day. (In this capacity, the employee may be expected to work outside a minimal amount of time, must be comfortable working in cold and hot weather conditions).
