To work in the Zoo Education Department to provide husbandry, care and training for a diverse
collection of exotic animals. To assist in the development and delivery of formal and informal
conservation education programs in a public setting for diverse audiences.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
To perform various daily husbandry and care duties required to maintain a healthy diverse program animal collection. To assist in the development and delivery of formal and informal conservation education classes, programs, presentations and shows for both on-site and off-site audiences of 200-300 hundred people. To assist in the conducting of behavioral training regimen for program animal collection in order to maintain trained exotic animals such as birds of prey, reptiles and small mammals for their safe and effective use in educational programming.
Development of protocols for animal care and husbandry, handling and training. Provide courteous Guest interaction to share information about the Zoo's animal population and conservation. Docent / volunteer supervision and communication.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
These knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through completion of high school and two (2) years of experience in the care of birds, mammals, and reptiles or other exotic animals in a controlled environment. One (1) year of public presentation and interpretation experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered. Class D Drivers License before employment.
Must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
FULL SALARY RANGE: $8.00 - $10.00 Hourly
