The Santa Barbara Zoo is seeking a self motivated and energetic team player with leadership qualities and creative thinking to join our Education team.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with outstanding interpersonal skills are required for the numerous aspects of this leadership position, promoting the Zoo and its mission through developing and managing volunteer programs and our volunteers.
The Volunteer Manager plans, develops, coordinates, administers, implements and evaluates the Zoo’s Volunteer programs, working in cooperation with various departments. You will recruit and screen volunteers, organize orientations and participate in training sessions, direct and monitor daily activities of volunteers, ensure continuing education opportunities for volunteers, assess programs, conduct presentations onsite and off site with local community organizations, high schools and colleges, participate in special events and field trips, and much more….
The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree (preferably in liberal arts, an education emphasis, conservation, biology, other life sciences, HR or Communications) or equivalent experience and a minimum 1 year experience in a professional environment working with youth and/or adult volunteers in a recreational or educational setting or in personnel management.
Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, verbal and written communication skills, demonstrate initiative, and be a problem solver. Must have a warm and amiable personality to establish and maintain strong rapport and positive relationships with volunteers, staff and guests. Must be able to remain flexible in fast paced environment while effectively juggling multiple priorities. Attention to detail and ability to multi-task successfully, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines. Applicant must be able to stand/walk for up to five continuous hours and access all areas of the facility with or without accommodations.
Experience working with Volgistics and Volunteer Administration Certification a plus!
Must be able to work one day of the week-end, holidays, and some evenings when events or training sessions are scheduled.
This position is full time, non-exempt,and the schedule is Tues-Sat, 9AM-5PM.
