Northwest Trek Horticulture Internship Description

Under the direction of the Horticulturist/Arborist Specialist, interns will conduct a wide variety of activities that may include but are not limited to native habitat restoration, native garden planting and upkeep, invasive species removal, native plant propagation, floristic field surveys, wetland mitigation work and other horticulture projects. Interns may also have opportunities to lead small volunteer groups on restoration activities.

This internship is available year round. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and must be available to work both weekdays and weekends. Interns must be available a minimum of 24 hours a week for 12 weeks, and are subject to a Washington State criminal background check.

Additional Requirements:

1. Course work in horticulture, forestry, and/or botany is strongly recommended.

2. Be capable of the physical abilities required to work in the outdoors. This includes lifting heavy objects (50 lbs. +), climbing, kneeling, and working in outdoor environment under any weather condition. 3. Have a valid driver’s license.

The internship can be extended if approved by the applicant and staff. This position is unpaid, but onsite housing opportunities may be available.
