DIVISION: Wildlife Care & ConservationREPORTS TO: Animal Operations Manager Position Overview: Performs a variety of duties that ensure the receipt, inspection, storage, inventory, preparation, and issuance of food and dietary supplements for mammals, fish, reptiles, amphibians, and birds. Essential Job Functions: Assists in preparing animals’ diets according to established procedures or guidelines. Inspects stored items, ensures rotation, and removes outdated or spoiled food. Ensures physical security and quality standards of food items (meat, fish, vegetables, grain, etc.), food supplements, and vitamins. Assembles food in properly marked containers and delivers or issues food to animal keepers. Cleans and sanitizes commissary facilities and associated animal feed storage areas, as well as dishes and other diet preparation items. Oversees/trains volunteers/interns assigned to the commissary. Other duties as assigned. Requirements: Physical Requirements: This position requires the physical ability to perform light heavy work including lifting and carrying objects up to 75 lbs.; work outside in all Florida weather conditions; climb ramps and stairs; and stand and walk for extended periods. Working Conditions: The work is performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. The incumbent is exposed to unpleasant odors and noises from the animals, food, and to cleaning solutions and other chemicals. The work is performed on hard floor surfaces. The incumbent may be exposed to animal parasites and zoonotic diseases. Other Employment Conditions: Because of potential contact with non-human primates, annual tuberculosis testing is required. Immunization against other communicable diseases may be required under certain circumstances. The incumbent may be assigned to any shift and is subject to call at any time, including weekends and holidays. The incumbent is considered to be emergency personnel for purposes of being on call during hurricanes and other emergencies, to ensure adequate animal care is provided as required. Education/Experience: High School diploma or GED certification; experience in an AZA Accredited facility preferred. Some commissary/food prep experience preferred. Must have a valid driver's license.
