The Animal Health Center at the Memphis Zoo is looking to hire a Zoo Veterinary Technician. This position will report directly to the Senior Veterinarian and will also be supervised by two additional staff veterinarians while working with one additional veterinary technician as well as a hospital keeper. This technician is responsible for assisting in all aspects of hospitalized as well as quarantined animal care. The successful applicant must be proficient with animal restraint techniques, anesthetic monitoring, in-house laboratory clinical pathology procedures, radiographic protocol, surgical assistance, medication administration, necropsy procedures, sample preparation/shipping, computerized medical record keeping and hospital supply inventory/ordering. Must be able to adapt to frequently changing conditions and various job details, effectively communicate verbally and in writing with others and provide emergency/on-call assistance as needed. Although employees are expected to be available to work any schedule as directed, the normal work schedule is anticipated at this time to be forty hours per week Tuesday through Saturday. This position ideally requires a degree in Veterinary Medical Technology from an AVMA accredited institution or equivalent degree in a related Medical Technology field and a minimum of one year of experience in the care and handling of exotic animals.
