The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is currently seeking an experienced, innovative, & dynamic Curator of Education. The position develops on-site education programs and teacher professional development classes as well as directs and evaluates all off-site, on-site casual visitor, home school, outreach, and citizen science education programs. This highly visible position connects, cultivates and partners with a variety of stakeholders throughout the First Coast region in fulfilling the Zoo’s mission to inspire discovery of wildlife through innovative encounters within a caring environment.

The Curator is responsible for effective recruiting, hiring, training and managing of full and part-time staff related to volunteer services and outreach programs, including internships, at risk groups, and citizen scientists. The Curator of Education will work closely with conservation, marketing and graphics staff to design new methods of engaging and exciting our guests about the natural world. Duties also include revenue generation and budget monitoring. The ideal candidate will have a proven record of building an innovative education program in a Zoo environment.

A college degree in life sciences or science education is required. A minimum of 3 years’ experience developing and implementing non-formal and formal conservation education programs is also required. The job requires that you be available to work special events that may occur outside of regular work schedule, including evenings, weekends or holidays, as assigned. Candidates must have the ability to stand for long periods of time, be able to bend and lift, be able to lift 25 pounds without difficulty. Candidates must also be able to work in adverse weather conditions and speak for long periods of time in front of public audiences. A valid driver’s license is required.
