Oglebay’s Good Zoo in Wheeling, WV is recruiting applicants who have completed at least 2 years of an undergraduate degree majoring in animal sciences, biology, zoology, wildlife and fisheries management, or related field, for year round animal care internship positions. The Good Zoo is the only Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) -accredited zoological institution in West Virginia, and is home to over 500 animals representing nearly 100 species. Students that participate in the 360 hour unpaid internship program will engage in daily care and management of zoo animals, animal training and enrichment, diet preparation, veterinary care, raptor rehabilitation, public interpretation, general housekeeping, observational research, and possible field research. Interns will receive training in CPR and First Aid, Blood-borne Pathogens, Zoonotic Diseases, and other topics. Interns may also attend Master Naturalist classes offered during their stay, free of charge. The program is designed to expose the intern to careers within the zoo and veterinary profession, and to enhance the intern’s skill sets to assist in preparing them for entry-level positions in the zoo and aquarium industry.Free housing is available (on a limited basis) to applicants residing greater than 50 miles from the Wheeling area from May 1st - October 31st.
