DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Position will assist with planning, design and development of aquatically themed exhibits and displays. The technician will assist with exhibit construction including but not limited to design /assembly of exhibit graphic panels, construction of exhibit furniture, related structures and replicated habitats. The technician will provide construction and maintenance support to the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher, such as working with paint, coatings, adhesives, anchoring techniques, fasteners, casework / trim and with a wide-range of mediums. The technician will assist the Exhibits Curator with production, assembly and repair of displays, signs, graphics and interactive exhibits. This person will also assemble and maintain a variety of track, accent and functional lighting in public spaces. Job responsibilities include the maintenance and repair of interior and exterior displays, signage, graphic panels and exhibit components; maintenance of exhibit related inventories; purchase and allocation of related project materials; mix, develop and apply paint color to exhibits. This person provides communication and organization of projects working with various Aquarium departments. Position requires working at heights in excess of 25 feet and lifting large bulky items. The successful candidate will illustrate initiative and the ability to perform in a fast-paced evolving atmosphere working on simultaneous projects. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy is imperative to succeed in this position as is the ability to work in a team environment. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Demonstrated experience in electrical, carpentry and painting skills; Demonstrated experience working with hand and power tools; Demonstrated experience working with Creative Suite computer software program; Experience in CAD drawings and the ability to read blueprints; Experience with exhibit design methods and fabrication techniques.
