ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

•Conduct on-site educational programs including but not limited to guided tours, behind the scenes tours, gallery programs, Bay Bytes, Shoreline Encounters, SeaLab programs, and Camp-ins.

•Conduct outreach programs including those for school and community groups.

•Properly maintain field equipment.

•Assist with Family Learning Center, Library, and Interpretation duties as needed.

•Participate in special events.

•Provide quality guest experiences.

•Provide live animal demonstrations as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES REQUIRED:

•Demonstrated skill in effectively teaching children in both structured and unstructured settings.

•Understanding of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for science.

•Knowledge of informal education techniques.

•Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with people of all ages

•Knowledge of local marine life

•Knowledge of proper use and care of scientific equipment

•Ability to speak Spanish preferred

•Ability to work with children ages 3 through 18 and adults

•Ability to deliver educational programming (including skits, songs, games and activities) in an engaging and entertaining fashion

•Ability to collect and handle marine specimens

•Ability to perform strenuous physical activities in an outdoor setting

•Ability to work a variable and flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays as required

•Ability to use Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Power Point, and Publisher effectively

•Skill in boating, canoeing and swimming

•Ability to work as a team member.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of education and experience which would likely produce the required knowledge, skills and abilities; prefer experience conducting formal or informal education programs

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Driver’s license and an insurable driving record

Prefer First Aid and CPR certification

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Some duties will be performed in an air-conditioned setting, while others will be performed outdoors in possible extreme heat or cold.
