The primary role of the Animal Care Manager of fishes and invertebrates is to oversee day to day management of keeper staff, fish and invertebrate collection, and exhibits. Specific responsibilities include: Staff supervision, including scheduling and training. Exhibit maintenance, including: operating and maintaining pump, filtration, and life support; cleaning exhibits; viewing panels; and helping with beautification projects throughout the zoo. Collection management, including: animal husbandry, acquisition, and disposition. Purchase supplies and food for the collection. Record keeping. Must be familiar with ZIMS and keep accurate records. Must occasionally give education programs and tours to zoo visitors and community/school groups. Extensive knowledge of pumps, filtration, and life support systems for salt and fresh water aquariums 20,000 gallons and over. Supervisory experience. Must be on call for emergency maintenance of life support systems. Must follow city and departmental policies and procedures.
Education: Associate’s degree is required in management or animal care (two years relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education).
Experience: Three years experience minimum as a zookeeper. 30 college credit hours may substitute for each year of required experience.
Certifications: SCUBA certification desired.
