The Oregon Coast Aquarium is seeking an enthusiastic student or recent graduate to join the aviculture team in the care of its bird collection. The 4 month (full time, unpaid) internship is available starting the first week in December. Start and end dates are flexible, for the right candidate.

The intern will be assisting the aviculture staff in all aspects of bird husbandry and daily exhibit maintenance, including: diet preparation, feeding birds, cleaning of exhibits and service areas, monitoring individual bird health, behavior and well-being, bird handling, and assisting in breeding season activities when applicable. Interaction with and educational presentations for aquarium visitors and special groups is required. Assisting with treatments and medical procedures, for sick and injured birds, may also be required. The person in this intern position will work under the guidance of the permanent aviculture staff, but should be able to work independently as well. Work takes place in all outdoor weather conditions and requires walking and climbing on wet uneven surfaces.

Coursework in biology or zoology related field is required. Previous animal experience is preferred. Ability to use computers and standard, commonly accepted computer programs is required. Ability to work under limited supervision, both independently and in a team environment is required.
