Metro Parks Tacoma is seeking Web Site & Project Specialist to lead the strategic development of the Web sites for Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium and Northwest Trek Wildlife Park. This position will be required to work at both locations with the daily schedule determined by the supervisor.

STARTING PAY RANGE: $17.15 - $22.00 per hour (Silver Pay Band)

CLASSIFICATION: This position is classified as a career full-time non-exempt non represented position. This position is eligible for benefits.


 Manage the day-to-day content and design of the Web and mobile sites for the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium and Northwest Trek Wildlife Park.

 Develop ways to use the Web as a strategic tool to effectively communicate with external audiences, with a focus on attracting visitor to both zoos.

 Analyze Web tracking data to continually improve Web site usability and effectiveness.

 Write, edit and produce content, with emphasis on creating compelling copy, visuals and audio. Write and produce electronic newsletters.

 Provide support on social media and other special projects to the marketing team.

 Operate a variety of specialized and standard office equipment, including a computer, related software applications and peripheral equipment, cameras and projectors.

 Prepare and maintain a variety of records, reports, and lists related to assigned activities and submit to appropriate personnel for review.

 Serve on various committees and assist Park District marketing and communication staff members with special projects as needed.

 Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or related field and a minimum of two years of experience in communications, Web development or design required. Must have strong writing and organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, and competency in Photoshop and basic design software.

LICENSES & OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation as this position will be assigned to two locations (PDZA located in Tacoma and NW Trek located in Eatonville) and will be scheduled and required to report to work at the locations as determined by the supervisor. Must have the ability to obtain a valid First Aid and CPR Card within the probationary period. Employment is subject to a national and/or Washington State Patrol background inquiry pursuant to RCW 43.43.832. Job applicants must be able to prove authorization to work in the United States at the time of a job offer as required by the 1986 Federal Immigration Reform and Control Act. Documentation establishing authorization to work may include a Social Security Card, picture ID and/or other approved documentation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment. Sitting and standing for extended periods of time. Bending and reaching to retrieve and maintain files. Hearing and speaking to exchange information. Lifting and carrying boxes and other objects up to 50 pounds. Driving a vehicle.

ENVIRONMENT/HAZARDS: Fast-paced office environment with some off-site work required. Some weekends and evening work may be required. Possible eye strain from computer terminal. Contact with dissatisfied or abusive individuals. Chemical fumes, odors and gases from printing machine.

EMPLOYEE BENEFITS: Metro Parks employees receive 12 paid holidays, 12 days of sick leave, and 12 to 30 vacation days a year depending on length of service with Metro Parks. All employees of Metro Parks Tacoma are required to enroll in the Washington State's Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). All employees are also covered by Social Security. Employees are able to select medical and dental coverage from available plans. Metro Parks contributes a percentage towards the monthly cost of medical and dental coverage for employees and their dependents. Life insurance is provided at no cost to the employee. It is equal to the employee’s annual salary.

EMPLOYMENT: Positions may require weekend shifts and may require night shift, holiday, and overtime. All career positions have a 9-month probationary period. Metro Parks Tacoma is a drug and alcohol free workplace.
