Students will learn about the husbandry care of Monterey Bay Aquarium's fish and invertebrate collections which may include working with jellyfish, cephalopods, sharks and other fishes. They will be able to experience a variety of protocols that include the overall maintenance of a variety of exhibits, record keeping, diet preparation, animal observations and animal transports. Students will have the rare opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of truly amazing animals.
Physical project assignments can include: Handling chemicals, kneeling, bending, squatting, climbing ladders, scrubbing, and sweeping.
At least 18 years of age
Current undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited college or university
Must be a student during the term immediately preceding the internship
Must submit a resume of courses and/or experience related to position applying
Minimum cumulative grade point average
3.0/4.0 for graduate students
Must provide a minimum of 2 letters of recommendation from college/university professors or faculty staff
Strong Interest in and awareness of animal husbandry and marine science / ecology
Willingness to get wet and dirty
Attention to detail
Ability to handle live animals and plants
Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to multi-task
Research, writing, academic literature and organizational skills
Interpersonal skills and proven ability to work effectively with colleagues
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PPT
Proficiency with SharePoint a plus

Jellies Collection: Sunday through Thursday 4 hrs. Per day / 5 days (Semester)
Jellies Collection: Tuesday through Saturday 4 hrs. Per day / 5 days (Semester)
Local Galleries: Sunday through Thursday 2 or 3 days per week (Semester)
Local Galleries: Tuesday through Saturday; Thurs, Fri, Sat are priorities - 4 hrs. Per day / 5 days per week (Semester)
Local Galleries: Sunday, Monday and/or Tuesday; morning shifts (8am to noon) are priority 16 hrs. preferred (Semester)
Splash Zone (tropical) Gallery: Tues, Wed and/or Thursday morning or afternoon (Semester)
Local Galleries: Tuesday through Saturday (Semester)
Local Galleries: Sunday through Thursday; 16 to 20 hrs. (Semester)
Cephalopod Husbandry *Graduate Level* Candidate with aquaculture and/or husbandry experience; minimum of 3 days per week (Semester)
All internship opportunities are Unpaid or STEM Internships (STEM may include funding provided through your educational institution).
