Under the general direction of the Assistant Curator, the Team Leader coordinates daily activities for the assigned area, and develops expertise in animal care and education programming as directed. Northwest Passage and Teton Trek are two of Memphis Zoo’s most high-profile areas, and are home to polar bears, California sea lions, black bears, bald eagles, brown bears, wolves and elk. Responsibilities include working with the Curator and Assistant Curator on the implementation of animal husbandry, educational programs – including a sea lion show, and visitor enrichment, performing daily animal care activities, assisting in record keeping, training animals as required, performing maintenance, cleaning, and general upkeep of assigned area, supervising and directing the activities of all employees in the assigned area in the absence of the Assistant Curator, and other duties as assigned to lead the area staff to excellence and in support of the Memphis Zoo. This position requires: five years of experience in exotic animal care, excellent interpersonal skills, excellent public speaking skills, well-developed organizational skills, and the demonstrated ability to lead and motivate others in a team atmosphere. The successful candidate should have a B.S. degree in biology or a related field or comparable combination of education and experience.
