The National Aquarium is looking for an Exhibit Designer to design and detail new experiences to inspire the conservation of the world’s aquatic treasures. This position brings innovative ideas and collaborative approaches to the challenge of creating interpretive aquarium exhibitions with interdisciplinary teams. The Exhibit Designer will use a variety of fabrication materials and processes to most effectively produce ‘world class’ guest experiences while maintaining established aesthetic standards throughout the Aquarium, promoting attractive, innovative and functional displays, which maintain and strengthen National Aquarium design vernacular and brand.

Duties include key involvement in all stages of the design process: developing guest experience goals, understanding the topic, defining aesthetics and ambiance with lighting, color, form, and design elements, accuracy in message portrayal, functionality regarding staff and visitor needs.

Requirements of this job include five or more years experience creating interpretive exhibitions for museums or similar organizations, a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Museum Studies or 3D-related design field or equivalent experience and proficiency in CAD (VectorWorks) and Adobe Creative Suite software.
