HOURS: Full Time Regular, 40 hours per week. This position will work Tuesday- Saturday, 8:00am-5:00pm. The position will work in Central Wharf, Boston but requires flexibility to work in the Animal Care Center in Quincy, MA as needed.

Have at least 2 years experience with the majority of the following:
o Veterinary procedures including: x-rays, drawing blood, processing blood samples for analysis, administering medications, calculating drug dosages, necropsy.
o Marine animal care including: fish diagnostic procedures (e.g. gill clipping, skin scrapes) and maintaining aquatic tank systems and life support systems.
o Maintaining anesthesia for fish and other species
o Water quality testing
APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED NO LATER THAN MONDAY, JULY 29TH, 2013 AT 5:00PM.
Under the supervision of the Director of Animal Health, monitors and manages the health of the animals at the Aquarium.
1. Assists veterinarians with medical cases. Performs animal examinations, restraint, diagnostics, treatments, and necropsies.
2. Administers and/or ensures that all prescribed treatments are administered to patients and ensures that appropriate husbandry care is provided for hospitalized animals.
3. Performs water quality testing.
4. Maintains and operates medical diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, and environmental life support, (eg. blood analyzers, radiography units, microscopes, wet/dry procedure table, filters, etc.); maintains and catalogues documentation of the proper use and maintenance of this equipment.
5.Monitors quarantine compliance for new animals by maintaining medical records for the quarantine animals and by scheduling/performing exams for animals entering and exiting quarantine.
6.Maintains accurate and complete medical records, images, slides, databases, and information archives.
7.Researches biological or medical information on cases and/or diseases. Corresponds with other NEAq departments or outside institutions when needed to gather or relay information concerning medical cases.
8.Performs weekly rounds with husbandry staff.
9.Manages volunteers and college interns to aid in the completion of essential job functions.
10.Performs other position – related duties as assigned.
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in biology or veterinary technology and 2 years of job-related experience. Experience in aquatic animal husbandry or veterinary medicine required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
•Veterinary experience including: x-rays, drawing blood, processing blood samples for analysis, administering medications, calculating drug dosages, necropsy.
•Aquatic animal experience including: fish diagnostic procedures (e.g. gill clipping, skin scrapes), maintaining aquatic tank systems and life support systems.
•Experience maintaining anesthesia for fish and other species.
•Experience with water quality testing.
Excellent math skills and computer skills.
Experience with medical diagnostic equipment.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and experience maintaining medical records.
Availability to work weekends, some holidays, and occasional early morning or late night hours required.
