The Greensboro Science Center, an AZA and AAM accredited facility, is currently recruiting for a newly created part time Aquarist position. This is an entry level position that will report directly to the SciQuarium Curator and Aquarist II. SciQuarium exhibits include Amazon, penguins, stingrays, and a 90,000 gallon open ocean tank.

The Aquarist will help care for a diverse collection of fishes including multiple species of sharks and rays, as well as Amazonian and Caribbean fish. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to: LSS maintenance, assisting with quarantine, water quality testing, diet preparation, maintenance diving, recordkeeping, cleaning, and mixing salt water.

The minimum education requirement for this position is an associate degree in marine biology/animal husbandry, or a minimum of 1 yr experience with tropical fishes. Candidates must be willing to work weekends and holidays. Must be SCUBA certified, or have the ability to get certified in first six months, and also hold a valid driver’s license. Must be able to work in hot and humid environments, and lift at least 50 lbs. The successful candidate should have basic understanding of plumbing and LSS systems, and some experience starting up small aquarium systems.
